There are days when even a short walk feels like too much. That’s when I started doing something smaller: twenty steps outside.
Twenty Steps Is an Interruption, Not a Workout
From my door to the edge of the path is about twenty steps. No exercise target. No distance goal. Just enough movement to break the loop of sitting in the same place.
Sometimes I turn around after twenty steps. Sometimes I keep going. Either way, the tiny goal did its job. If this approach works for you, try the end-of-the-street version or the 5-Minute Exit Strategy.
Remove the Little Barriers
Slip-on shoes, a zip hoodie, and a thermos make the first step easier because they don’t turn the outing into a production.

Final Thoughts
Twenty steps won’t solve everything, and they don’t need to. The value is making the first action small enough to start.
